Prolipo: Part 2

How much fat can be removed?

The amount of fat that can be removed is quite extensive. However, very large fat pockets usually require a few sessions to achieve the best cosmetic result.

Is prolipo a permanent cure for fat?

Prolipo is not a permanent cure for fat or obesity. All individual who undergo ProLipo should enter an exercise program, and change their life style including diet if they want to maintain the cosmetic benefits after ProLipo.

Where is prolipo done?

Prolipo is usually done in a physician’s clinic. The area where the fat is located is infiltrated with some local anesthetic. The laser fiber is inserted into the fat pockets and activated. The heat generated dissolves the fat. The dissolve fat is often removed with a small hollow vacuum tube. The duration of the procedure depends on the size of fat being treated; in most cases the procedure takes about 60-90 minutes.

What happens after the procedure?

After the procedure, most individuals develop some mild bruising, swelling and redness. These transient side effects resolve in about 5-7 days. Compressive garments are usually recommended when the procedure is done on the abdomen and extremities. These garments help decrease the swelling and improve healing. Most individuals can resume their daily life style activities within a few days.

Does the laser hurt?

You bet it does. Try touching your skin with a lighted cigarette. The doctors do numb the skin with a local anesthetic but it still hurts.
