sunless tanning: Part 3
Who should use sunless tanning?
Sunless tanning is expensive in the long run. The process is ideal for someone who has an important anniversary coming up, getting married or is going away for a few days and needs a good tan. Unlike the natural sun, one can get a quick tan and not be burned either.
What are the results like?
The sprays available today produce a smooth natural even tan which looks beautiful and sexy.
Are sunless tanning products available for home use?
Yes, going to a salon for a tan is expensive. One can buy the same spray can and apply it at home. Of course, in the beginning you will create a few blotches or cause unevenness but these minor flaws are usually not noticeable. For the beginner, buy an air spray nozzle. It tends to give a much smoother texture without blotches. Even if blotches occur, they generally smoothen out over the next few days.
Do sunless tanning products contain sunscreens?
One should note that sunless tanning products do not always contain a sunscreen. So if you plan to spend any time outside, you should apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 20. The bronzed tan looks usually lasts anywhere from 4-7 days.
Do sunless tanning products contain a moisturizer?
Yes some product do contain a moisturizer, DHA can cause drying of skin, so select a product with a moisturizer.
What is cost of sunless tanning products?
Sunless tanning spray costs can range from $25 a session to $300, depending on the salon, the product and whatever extras are offered. Tanning at home is a lot cheaper and cost as little as $10, depending on brand and product. Of course, you can always buy an expensive product.

Sunless Tanning: Part 2
How should one apply sunless tanning?
Prior to the application of the tanning spray, it is highly recommended that you shave your hair and have a reasonable scrub bath/shower to remove all your dead skin cells and debris. Dry your self and cover your eyes. The lotion or spray is then applied evenly on the entire body surface. To avoid staining your clothes, wait at least 20-30 minutes before getting dressed.
When do I see results of sunless tanning?
In most individuals, some change in skin color is visible in an hour after application, but the maximal effect is not visible for about 12-24 hours
How long does sunless tanning last?
Once your tan has been developed, it will gradually start to fade over the next 3-4 days. In most cases, the tan will last for about 4-7 days.
Are sunless tanning products safe?
Yes, Sunless tanning products are generally safe when applied on the body. However, you must ensure that you do not get the tan in your eyes. It is recommended that one wear swimming goggles or cover the eyes with cotton while the spray is being applied. If the spray does get in your eye, wash your eyes under water for at least 15-30 minutes.
What are sunless tanning pills?
Recently sunless tanning pills have also become available and are sold on cyberspace. These pills are not approved by the FDA and are considered unsafe for human use. The pills do work and can change color of your skin but the chemicals can also form crystals in your eye and other parts of the body. Other reported side effects of these pills include bloating, abdominal, cramps and diarrhea. The pills do not work right away and often fail to tan your skin. So if you have any common sense, stay away from these pills.

Sunless tanning
Now that summer is finally here, everyone wants a great tan. However, for many of us who live in North America, sunshine is not a promise every single day. Further, too much sun is also not good for skin. So how can one get a beautiful, sexy tan?
In the last two decades, sunless tanning products have become widely available. These products can produce an immediate bronzed look which looks glamorous. In addition, sunless tanning also avoids the risks associated from UV rays that occur from sun exposure.
The majority of sunless products on the market in North America have been FDA approved for sale to the public.
Sunless tanning products are available in many formulations such as creams, gels, lotions and even sprays. The chief ingredient in these products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). If the product does not contain DHA, then you should not buy it.
DHA acts by merging with the most superficial layers of skin and inducing a dark tan. DHA has a robust attraction for superficial skin cells and does not easily come off even with washing. Once the superficial skin has been tanned, the color remains on the body until the cells are shed -which in most cases is about 5-7 days.
Sunless tanning is now commonly accessible at most spas and salons.

How can i treat rosacea? part 2
What are essentials in treating skin care for Rosacea?
Essential factors include good skin care. Do not use harsh skin cleansers or peeling agents. Avoid all oily fragrances, moisturizers, cream, and lotions. Creams and lotions with fragrances contain a lot of synthetic chemicals that can worsen your rosacea.
All individuals with rosacea must regularly use sunscreens when they go out in the sun. Select a water-based sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Many individuals who have rosacea get worsening of their symptoms after intense sun exposure.
What if home remedies do not help?
If self-care remedies are not adequate to control symptoms, one needs to see a decent skin doctor. For moderate and severe rosacea, oral or topical antibiotics can do wonders. The most common antibiotics used are clindamycin or doxycycline. These antibiotics can rapidly reduce the inflammation and redness. The treatment may be required for several weeks to completely eradicate the symptoms. The treatment of Rosacea requires patience because the disorder generally takes time to resolve. In some cases, prescription antibiotics may be required for many weeks and months.
What else can be used to treat Rosacea?
Other treatments for Rosacea include the use of Azelaic acid, Flagyl, Retinoids or some sulfur formulations. It is important not to combine these treatments but stick to one that works. Unfortunately, what may work for one individual may not always work for another. When Rosacea is severe enough, it may even require surgery to help reduce the visible blood vessels and remove excess skin tissue from the nose. Remember, surgery is not a cure for Rosacea; it is only designed to reshape the nose.
What about laser to treat rosacea?
Almost every cosmetic physician thinks that laser is like penicillin and can cure every skin ailment. Lasers only help very few individuals with rosacea. In the majority of cases, lasers cause more harm than benefit. Lasers are also expensive, do not cure rosacea, and are never the first choice of treatment. There is no clinical evidence that lasers can alter the course of rosacea or prevent recurrence. All lasers do is reduce the redness. This same benefit can be obtained with use of Retinoids for 1/20th cost and without having to suffer pain or potential complications.

How can i treat Rosacea?
Once Rosacea is acquired, it is important to seek early treatment. Individuals who seek care for their rosacea on cyberspace and from alternative care practitioners usually end up with permanent disfiguring scars. All individuals who have Rosacea should understand from the onset that there is no cure for Rosacea. There is no medication, lotion, potion, herb, nutrient or physician that can cure Rosacea. Rosacea is best treated by a skin physician who has experience with the disorder.
Every single treatment available today can only control the symptoms. In general, medications used for Rosacea are used to control facial redness, eye irritation, and pimples. No matter what treatment one undertakes for Rosacea, it is essential to avoid or control factors that trigger skin to flush.
What are common triggers to avoid?
Common triggers that are known to aggravate Rosacea include:
- Exposure to extremes of temperatures (either too hot
or too cold)
- Alcohol consumption
- eating hot and spicy foods
- Intense exercise under humid conditions
- Stress (both physical and emotional).
How do I know which triggers worsen my rosacea?
The only way to identify the triggers is to keep a small diary and write down when the episodes occur and what you think was the most likely cause. Over a few weeks or months, you will have a good idea what the trigger factors are. Once you have identified the factors, all you need to do is avoid them or limit the exposure. A lot of clinical evidence reveals that mild to moderate Rosacea can be successful treated with this simple method.

Rosacea: Part 3
What about laser for Rosacea?
There are many cosmetic physicians who recommend laser for Rosacea. In some cases, Rosacea improves transiently but in the majority of cases, laser makes rosacea worse. In addition, laser is very expensive and has its own complications. The majority of testimonials on cyberspace on lasers and rosacea are extremely negative.
Does surgery have a role in treatment of Rosacea?
Surgery is only used to treat rhinophyma. The nose can be reshaped surgically or with the use of a laser. The results are not always ideal and scars are common.
What other treatments are used to treat rosacea?
Some physicians even recommend low dose drug maintenance treatment when the symptoms have cleared up to prevent the flare-ups. In severe cases of rosacea, oral contraceptives have also been found to be effective (good option only for women). Rosacea is a very difficult skin disorder to treat and thus, it is important to have a regular follow up with a dermatologist to get the best and most effective treatment.

- eating spicy and hot foods
- consumption of hot beverages
- drinking alcohol in excess
- physical and emotional stress
- exposure to extremes of weather
- use of harsh facial chemicals and soaps
- use of shampoos containing astringents
- frequent hot showers
Individuals with Rosacea can control the disease by avoiding trigger factors.
What is treatment of Rosacea?
Treatment of rosacea is available but difficult. The treatments available can reduce the symptoms but do not cure the disease. Rosacea has a habit of coming back within a few weeks or months after treatment.
What drugs can be used to treat Rosacea?
Currently the best treatment for Rosacea is with the use of low dose Retinoids like Accutane. Other drugs that often work are Tetracyclines and anti-inflammatory agents. In addition to antibiotic creams, one may even need oral pills to control acute outbreaks of Rosacea. When the eye is involved, one can apply warm compresses and artificial tears to sooth the gritty sensation.

How can I best treat my Rosacea?
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a common skin disorder that typically presents with a red rash and numerous inflamed pimples on the nose, forehead, cheeks, and chin. Inmost cases, the disorder starts with redness around the nose. Soon red inflamed pimples appear all over the face and nose. The appearance is fairly typical in most individuals. Often the disorder is mistaken for acne but blackheads are not part of the disorder. Rosacea is a quite common in and it is estimated that about 5% of North American individuals have rosacea.
Who is more prone to Rosacea?
Rosacea is most common in Caucasian females in between the 3rd-6th decade of life. Rosacea also occurs in men, but tends to be much severe in intensity. Rosacea tends to affect individuals with fair skin and those who tend to flush rather easily. All races and cultures are affected by rosacea
Another peculiar finding in men is that Rosacea also causes Rhinophyma. In rhinophyma, the nose appears large, deformed, and extremely red.
What is course of Rosacea?
If no treatment is undertaken, Rosacea simply gets worse.
What causes Rosacea?
It is widely believed that a combination of sun exposure and the tendency to flush are related. The sun exposure causes destruction of the very fine blood vessels underneath the skin. This is the reason why the skin appears red and flushed. When the vessels widen, fluid leaks out and is most likely the cause of swelling. During an acute flare up of Rosacea, the skin is tender to touch. Rosacea also affects the eyes and causes redness, dryness and an itchy sensation. Most people complain about a gritty sensation or a foreign body feeling in the eye. Excessive tearing and sensitivity to light is also common. Individuals with eye involvement should always be seen by an eye physician.

Prolipo: Part 3
When does one see results after prolipo?
The results after ProLipo are visible within a few days. Tissue shrinkage is obvious once the swelling subsides. The remodeling of the tissues goes on for a few more weeks and the final cosmetic benefits are not seen for a few months.
Does everyone respond to prolipo?
No, less than 10% of individuals see a decent result. Most individuals end up with a lot of pain, disappointment, and money lost.
Can complications occur with prolipo?
Sure, anytime you start burning tissues with heat, complications are bound to happen. On cyberspace, most people complain about pain, scars, skin discoloration, and no benefit.
What is cost of prolipo?
Prolipo is considered a cosmetic procedure and not covered by any medical insurance company. The costs of the treatment depend on the number of areas being treated and the amount of fat removed. For removal of small pockets of fat, the procedure can cost about $400-$500. Larger areas of treatment can cost anywhere from $1,500-2,500.
Final point
Before you set out to get this procedure done settle the cost with the surgeon. Even though complications are rare with ProLipo, they do occur. So choose your provider with care. For those who have little money, change your diet and start walking. This is safe and will get you the result if you are patient and motivated. For those who have money and like to experience pain, this is your opportunity.

Prolipo: Part 2
How much fat can be removed?
The amount of fat that can be removed is quite extensive. However, very large fat pockets usually require a few sessions to achieve the best cosmetic result.
Is prolipo a permanent cure for fat?
Prolipo is not a permanent cure for fat or obesity. All individual who undergo ProLipo should enter an exercise program, and change their life style including diet if they want to maintain the cosmetic benefits after ProLipo.
Where is prolipo done?
Prolipo is usually done in a physician’s clinic. The area where the fat is located is infiltrated with some local anesthetic. The laser fiber is inserted into the fat pockets and activated. The heat generated dissolves the fat. The dissolve fat is often removed with a small hollow vacuum tube. The duration of the procedure depends on the size of fat being treated; in most cases the procedure takes about 60-90 minutes.
What happens after the procedure?
After the procedure, most individuals develop some mild bruising, swelling and redness. These transient side effects resolve in about 5-7 days. Compressive garments are usually recommended when the procedure is done on the abdomen and extremities. These garments help decrease the swelling and improve healing. Most individuals can resume their daily life style activities within a few days.
Does the laser hurt?
You bet it does. Try touching your skin with a lighted cigarette. The doctors do numb the skin with a local anesthetic but it still hurts.

Prolipo- another B.S. treatment for removing fat!
What is prolipo?
Everyone us trying to suck fat from the body with innovative methods. While liposuction remains the gold standard and works well, many other crappy treatments have been developed and one of them is prolipo. Prolipo does not involve any major surgery. in fact uses a laser. The laser is fired at the fat pockets and the fat dissolves. One does not even need any general anesthesia
How does prolipo work?
The vendors of this therapy recommend use of lasers. the very fine hollow laser fibers are inserted into the fat pockets. The heat generated then dissolves the fat which is then removed from the body. The manufacturers of ProLipo claim that in addition to removing fat, the heat from the laser also induces remodeling of collagen fibers which results in tightening of skin. The eventual result is a well-contoured skin, which is smooth, soft and much younger looking (how many times have we heard this same story again and again!)
Can prolipo be used instead of liposuction?
No, Prolipo is not a substitute for liposuction. It is a complementary technique used when the resistant fat pockets still remain after exercise or liposuction.
Who is a candidate for prolipo?
In general, most people are candidates for ProLipo except diabetics, those who have an active skin infection or individuals who are on blood thinners.
Where can prolipo be performed?
Prolipo can be performed on any part of the body including the face, neck, upper arms, back, chest, waist, hip, thighs, buttocks, pubis, and knees.
