Rosacea: Part 3

What about laser for Rosacea?

There are many cosmetic physicians who recommend laser for Rosacea. In some cases, Rosacea improves transiently but in the majority of cases, laser makes rosacea worse. In addition, laser is very expensive and has its own complications. The majority of testimonials on cyberspace on lasers and rosacea are extremely negative.

Does surgery have a role in treatment of Rosacea?

Surgery is only used to treat rhinophyma. The nose can be reshaped surgically or with the use of a laser. The results are not always ideal and scars are common.

What other treatments are used to treat rosacea?

Some physicians even recommend low dose drug maintenance treatment when the symptoms have cleared up to prevent the flare-ups. In severe cases of rosacea, oral contraceptives have also been found to be effective (good option only for women). Rosacea is a very difficult skin disorder to treat and thus, it is important to have a regular follow up with a dermatologist to get the best and most effective treatment.
